WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Washington Mystics and The Capital Area Food Bank will host a demonstration to educate children participating in the food bank’s Kids Cafe program, an after-school program that serves well-balanced snacks and meals to more than 2000 children, how to grow their own fruits and vegetables using Growums at the Brookland Manor Community Center on August 24 at 4:00 pm. Growums provides products that teach children how to grow their own food and help the environment, as well as emphasize the importance of healthy eating. Mystics guard Alana Beard and Mystics Mascot Pax will be on hand to present the Growums products to the Kids Cafe participants and help the children start the community garden.

The Capital Area Food Bank, a member of Feeding America, is the Washington, D.C. metro area’s hub for food sourcing, distribution and nutrition education - serving over 478,000 people struggling with hunger. Through direct service and a network of 700 nonprofit partners, the CAFB distributed 30 million pounds of food last year, nearly 15 million pounds of fresh produce. The Capital Area Food Bank has served the National Capital Region over 30 years.
